Marine Diesel Engine
Summary
MES concluded licensing agreement with A/S Burmeister & Wain (Denmark) in 1926, and thereafter renewing world records in production of marine diesel engines as the top maker. 12K98ME type, delivered in 2006, is the world largest electrically controlled engine developed by MAN B&W Diesel A/S for main machinery of large container ship.
For ME engines, fuel injection, gas exhaust timing and cylinder lubrication are controlled electronically which enable minimum revolution of diesel engines lower than the conventional MC/MC-C diesel engines. Therefore, ship's maneuverability during the passage through narrow channel or in port area can be much improved and, further, reduction of fuel and cylinder oil results in smaller emission of NOx and soot in exhaust gas. Furthermore, this engine can reduce the consumption of fuel and cylinder oil decreasing eventually the emission of NOx and soot. The engine, therefore, can be called an engine friendly to the global environment.
MES manufactures compact medium-speed engines with high power, called Mitsui ADD Engines. 8 sets of Mitsui ADD engines installed on Deep Sea Drilling Vessel 'Chikyu' delivered in 2005 for promotion and keeping position electorically.
Main Features
MES produces engines in a broad range: from 1,600 kW to 74,760kW output with the line-up from 260mm to 980mm cylinder bore and from 4 to 12 cylinders.
MES replies to customers' requests for design, manufacturing, and after services.

2005 - 50 million BHP Accumulated Production with a single brand - the World Record Preparing for 5 million BHP Annual Production
2006 - A joint corporation, CSSC-MES Diesel Co., Ltd. (CMD) established in Shanghai by CSSC, Hudong Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. (HHM) and MES. CMD plans to produce annually 1 million BHP in 2008 and 3million BHP in the future. We aim at the diesel engine group annually producing 10 million BHP composed of 3 miilion BHP by CMD, 2 million BHP by HHM, and 5 million BHP by MES.
